Risk is all around us, all the time! So where does the 10,000 mile journey of ‘risk management’ begin? ISO 31000:2018 has some ideas and can get you started.    4. Inclusive – include all aspects of the ‘end-to-end’ workflow
   5. Dynamic – risk and opportunities are always changing
   6. Best available information – don’t become a victim of ‘paralysis from analysis
   7. Human and culture factors – a system won’t reduce risk, but people will
   8. Continual Improvement – to reduce surprises 

2. Framework guided by Leadership and Commitment

   1. Integration – weave risk-based thinking into the fabric
   2. Design – use a cross-functional team to get the best results
   3. Implementation – Leaders need to know what is needed
   4. Evaluation – Top Management needs to understand how well risk is being managed
   5. Improvement – just like ‘rust’, risk never sleeps

3. Process for a structured approach

   1. Set the scope
   2. Do a risk assessment
   3. Create a risk ‘treatment’
   4. Monitor and review the treatment
   5. Record risk management results and report on them
   6. Communicate the results, engage in consultation and develop ‘risk-based thinking’ throughout your organization.
