Whose Management System is it, anyway?
We need to focus on our users when we’re designing and improving our management systems. This may seem obvious, but you’d be amazed at how many times a client will ask, “Will the auditor accept this?”. Of course we want to get certified, but if we are sure of the requirements and decide what we need for our operation, we’ll be all set.
Sometimes our external customers want something special and Regulatory bodies can be demanding. Certain ISO Standards like Medical Devices (13485), AS 9100 and the IATF 16949 standards are all more prescriptive than ISO 9001, 14001 or 45001. But that doesn’t mean your system has to turn into a mountain of ‘paper’. We can keep it simple and user-friendly and get some payback.
If people are using your system it will get better. When it gets better, we are more profitable, period! Reap the benefits from simplicity – it takes more work, but the payback can be exponential.
